FARMERS COOPERATIVE ELEVATOR AND MERCANTILE ASSOCIATION OF DIGHTON
HISTORY
The Farmers Cooperative Elevator and Mercantile Association of Dighton was started in 1916. At this time, not much is known about the history of the Dighton Co-op.
The Dighton Elevator was built in 1930. It now has a licensed storage capacity of 1,751,000 bushels.
The Dighton Elevator became a part of the Garden City Co-op on April 1, 2005 when the Farmers Cooperative Elevator and Mercantile Association of Dighton merged with the Garden City Co-op. At the time of purchase, there was also an “air dome” which held approximately 1.3 million bushels capacity but it was destroyed by an ice storm in 2007.
